6a. Minimise the lifecycle impact of equipment used by the service
There are a number of approaches we can take to reduce the environmental impacts of any equipment used by the service.
Sub-actions
6a. (i) Use remanufactured equipment where possible
6a. (ii) Maximise the lifespan of hardware
6a. (iii) Have a plan for end of life

(iii) Have a plan for end of life
Make a plan to retire all service equipment in the lowest-impacting way possible. When assessing options for disposal, consider:
• any sustainable disposal options, such as buy-back schemes
• reusing equipment on other projects or programmes
• recycling equipment that cannot be reused
Environmental benefit:
Reusing, refurbishing or recycling equipment at the end of its life save on the environmental impacts of manufacturing new equipment from virgin materials.
